Somalia: Jamaican man who wanted to join Al Shabab arrested in Mogadishu [Photos] | RBC Radio



The man who identified his name as Dennis Cliffe was arrested in the airport after he landed from a flight from Nairobi.
Mogadishu (RBC) The security forces of the transitional federal government of Somalia have on Tuesday arrested a Jamaican man who wanted to travel to southern town Kismayo where Al Shabab currently dominates, RBC Radio reports.
The man who identified his name as Dennis Cliffe was arrested in the airport after he landed from a flight from Nairobi.
“I am from Jamaica I came here to study the religion I am now heading to Kismayo.” Dennis Cliffe told in short interview with RBC Radio in the airport. He said he was living in Nairobi for about three weeks and later decided to go into Somalia. “I want to help the Islam in Somalia” he added as he shook his head.
He seemed to be quite and not worrying as his head was folded with piece of clothes.
He said he was from Jamaica and came here to study the Islamic religion
Somalia’s senior immigration officer, Abdullahi Gafow Mohamud who spoke to journalists said the man entered the country without any visa.
“When we asked of his visa he said he had not but we saw his passport is from UK which numbered 3004545431.” Gafow said.
Gafow added that they also confiscated numerous items from the man’s bag. Laptop computer, CDs, a CD player, toothpaste, shampoo and hair oil was shown to the journalists.
“We are now carrying an investigation and the suspected man will be in police custody.” The immigration officer noted.

Officials of Somalia security agency suspect the man was going to join Al Shabab rebels in Kismayo.
